Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the difference between APIN & other Networks or Associations ?
In the last 20years within Australia all investigative Associations or Networks have been developed by individuals with a vested interest in maintaining the states quo or attempting to control the investigative industry by a small number of primary agency operators with little to no regard for the operational investigator. APIN was formed in 2008 by operational investigators for operational investigators with the mission of the network to be directed by its members and not by one or a small number of investigators. Our member’s opinions are not only heard but we can make a difference.

Why are the details of APIN members restricted ?
APIN member’s details are deliberately restricted to the general public and even as a member you are restricted from releasing member or any information that is generated within our site. The reason we take such a firm stance on this is that all members are operational investigators or training to become investigators.

Why Should I Join APIN as a Licensed Investigator?
As a professional licensed private investigator working out in the field we have found the following common issues that arise as the primary concerns aired by a large number of investigators in the last 10 years.

  • Isolated working as a surveillance or factual investigator with no or very little access to other professional operational investigators?
  • Continuing reductions in actual rates and conditions.
  • No support by Associations for the operational investigator.
  • Finding it difficult to network with committed professional investigators that you can trust?
  • No forum to air your opinion in relation to the industry direction?
  • New to the industry looking for a professional investigator to mentor and develop your skills or just seek another professional investigators opinion?
  • Looking for support and a social network?

Why Should I Join APIN as a training investigator?
As a person in training with a recognised training provider you will gain direct access to a network of professional investigators across the country that will assist you in your exiting new career path. This can take the form of information via the web site, connecting you to a mentor with the relevant industry experience committed to assisting you in your goals and a range of other services on your path as a professional investigator.

What Benefits do I get as a member?

Our members have access to current and relevant information on industry issues, professional investigators across the country, agency ratings by investigators, services and products, forum communication hub, membership card, mentoring program, training and a social network.

If I have a criminal history do I qualify as a member of APIN?

A criminal history does not disqualify a person from membership depending on the offence. In general terms if you qualify for a private investigators license in any state or territory you may qualify for membership.

If I am a primary agency operator do I qualify as a member of APIN?
We have adopted a policy to restrict membership to operational investigators that perform a minimum of 50% of investigations in the field. This is to maintain a network of operational investigators run by operational investigators that require a unique perspective that has not been prevalent in other networks or associations in our industry.

Membership Requirements

  • You must be in training or licensed as a private investigator within Australia, and
  • Be nominated by a current financial member if fully licensed, and
  • If in training supply a criminal history check
  • Physically perform 50% of your investigations in the field, and
  • Be committed to high ethical and professional standards, and
